| How does a finger oximeter read data?

new1

Finger oximeters are generally called nail oximeters and generally contain three parameters, including blood oxygen saturation, pulse rate and blood perfusion index. A few oximeters may only have the first two parameters, the three complement each other, and the three indicators should be observed together.

1. Blood oxygen saturation: It is the most important parameter in the oximeter. It refers to the proportion of hemoglobin in the blood that is used to transport oxygen in normal function. Under normal circumstances, the arterial blood oxygen saturation is between 95% and 100%. %, the average is about 98%, but it should not be lower than 95%. If the blood oxygen saturation is observed to be 94% or lower, it indicates that the blood oxygen is insufficient, indicating that there is not enough oxygen in the body to be transported to the relevant organs. , brain, kidney and other organs will be irreversibly damaged under the condition of hypoxia;

2. Pulse rate: Under normal circumstances, the pulse rate is equal to the heart rate. In a few cases, such as patients with atrial fibrillation, there will be a short pulse, that is, the pulse rate is less than the heart rate. Under normal circumstances, the pulse rate (heart rate) is 60-100 beats/min, less than 60 beats/min is bradycardia, more than 100 beats/min is tachycardia, and a few normal people can be between 50-60 beats/min . When the pulse rate is too fast, it indicates that the body may be in various conditions such as hypoxia, anemia, fever, stress, and high metabolic level; while the pulse rate is too slow, there may be hypothyroidism, electrolyte imbalance, etc., which may cause the body to Insufficient circulating blood volume, resulting in insufficient blood supply to the brain;

3. Blood perfusion index: referred to as PI, which reflects the perfusion ability of blood flow. If the PI is too low, it indicates that the body may be in a state of insufficient peripheral circulation perfusion, hypovolemic shock, etc., and attention should be paid to fluid replacement to ensure sufficient circulating blood volume.

When observing the parameters of the nail oximeter, the three indicators should be paid attention to at the same time and complement each other. The overall view cannot be ignored only by the slight fluctuation of one indicator, but also the evaluation of the overall state of the patient. On the contrary, for the three indicators Changes should be paid close attention to, so that problems can be found as soon as possible and dealt with in a timely manner.
