| Can the oxygen generator be used for a long time?

An oxygen generator is a device for inhaling oxygen and is generally used for home oxygen therapy. Home oxygen therapy is indicated. Indications for oxygen therapy include arterial partial pressure of oxygen <55 mmHg or arterial oxygen saturation <88% at rest, with or without hypercapnia, or arterial partial pressure of oxygen < 88%. 60%, but greater than 56mmHg or arterial oxygen saturation <89%, with one of the following conditions, secondary polycythemia, mean pulmonary artery pressure ≥25mmHg, right ventricular dysfunction leading to edema. The method of oxygen therapy is that the daily oxygen inhalation time is not less than 15 hours, and the oxygen flow rate is 1-2L/min. It is not harmful for patients with oxygen therapy indications to use an oxygen generator for a long time.

Long-term use of an oxygen concentrator will cause certain damage unless a high flow of oxygen is given. If only low flow, oxygen is not harmful.

Especially for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary respiratory failure, long-term oxygen inhalation can help improve the patient’s condition and protect the patient’s lung function. However, pay attention to humidification when inhaling oxygen to prevent the gas from drying out and bleeding from the oral mucosa.

Generally, oxygen is inhaled for at least 10 hours a day. For patients with respiratory failure and blood oxygen saturation less than 90%, long-term oxygen therapy should be given at home. If there is a change in consciousness, you should go to the hospital in time.
